Every now and then I hear a song and get inspired to write something to it, last week I was listening to Coldhearted By Blu & Exile ft Miguel and penned something. I used the same rhyme pattern he did for most of the verse, this is what I came up with.
Here is the instrumental, if you want to get your rap on:
Verse (starts around 0:30)
Am I learning to teach, or am I teaching to learn?
It's neither either or both, I'm just heeding a call
And what I'm giving to you, I'm really giving to me
Some call that cause and effect - I say it's deeper than that
See since the mirror was smashed, we couldn't see our reflections
The illusion began, we forgot our connection
Competition would reign, bringing seasons of pain
...created divisions not embracing our differences
Hand fighting the foot, head fighting the heart
Civil war on the spiritual, parallels on the physical
Still fighting ourselves, not liking ourselves
Till we're killing ourselves, 'cos we're not feeling ourselves
See they taught us to be, told us we must achieve
Like we weren't quite enough, that conditional love
No-one taught me to be, no-one taught me to breathe
I'm still learning from books but not as much as from trees
See they take what they need, but they give in abundance
Take C-0-2 and transform it to chi
Give food plus homes to the birds and it seems
That they always stay connected 'cos their roots are so deep
So I'm taking a leaf out of that book getting back to that peace
Underneath all of the thoughts going back to the Source
I release all the beliefs and bullshit I was taught
Now the sheep has turned shepherd it's the way of the walk
Matrix code-cracker, reality hacker
Isaac Newton scratching his head the way I deal with the matter
I'm the factor beyond space never captured by time
I'm the who, they why what, I'm the body the mind
I'm the spirit, I am the Devilish, and the Divine
I am you and you are me, still we seek and we hide
Either death by seperation when the ego divides
Or expand when we connect with the awareness inside.
Coldhearted - Blu & Exile ft Miguel
Original Lyrics
[Hook: Miguel]
Life is cold
Cold is pain
Pain is growth
And every seed that grows sees rain
And the rain 'gon come it ain't nothing new
But when it's done the sun shining through
[Verse: Blu]
I was cold hearted and young, a dumb kid with a gun
Cuz fun days don't last, the last nigga to laugh
So rap fell on my tongue, numb feelings remain
And pain comes and it goes
But my wounds shows the room where my pops beat my moms
Moms screaming for help, myself hot as the sun
Cold hearted and young, a dumb kid with a gun
That I got from my pops
Top drawer when he left my momma twice in a week
My momma lifeless and weak, spendin' her nights in the sheets
With seed killer number (one)
Seed killer number (two)
Seed killer number (three)
Got heat from the newborns scorned brother
Blu black-hearted and young
Raps fell of his tongue
Numb feelings remain
The pain comes and it goes
But my wounds show the tomb that now shelters my boy
My boy needed my help, myself not in the game
The game heartless and young
Dumb niggas with guns, cause fun days don't last
The last nigga to blast got shots all in his back
Wrath fell on his soul but in my soul he remains
Pain comes and it goes
But my wounds show the moon shining off of his blood
His blood ran through his moms
His moms ran outside
5 niggas with guns
Seed killer number (one)
Seed killer number (two)
Seed killer number (three)
Pulled the heat and he was through
Threw dirt on his casket his mom wore a mask and
Still couldn't hide tears years pass her son
Numb feelings remain
Pain comes and it goes
But my wounds show the groom that still married my mom
My mom still had a son
Dumb kid with a guy, that I got from my pops
Top drawer when he left
My momma fighting for years
My momma fighting the tears
Now she gotta explain the game of life to her son
But the sun still shines
Nine children and a newborn scorned brother two
Blu, life isnt young
Dumb kid with a tongue, that I got from hip-hop
But she left me for you, so I'mma give her to you
Cold-hearted and young
Hook
Thanks to Blu, Exile & Miguel for the inspiration and thanks to PJ for sharing the song with me.
